StudentBench: AI and human tutoring yield equivalent GRE learning gains

Source facts
StudentBench is a public AI-tutoring evaluation platform built from more than 175,000 student-AI messages. The preprint reports a study of 2,383 human participants assigned to AI tutoring, expert human tutoring, or no tutoring for GRE learning tasks. It reports statistically equivalent AI- and human-tutoring learning gains and says the best AI tutor exceeded the human-tutor average in five of seven domains.
Analysis
The study treats tutoring as a learning-outcome problem rather than a conversational-quality benchmark. If replicated, the result would support measuring AI education systems by student progress and cost-adjusted effectiveness, not only answer quality or engagement.
Uncertainty/Doubt
- This is an arXiv preprint. The platform, participant study, tutor equivalence, and cost claims were not independently reproduced here, and no independent validation of the reported study design was located.
