Source facts

PosteriorBench evaluates whether generative inverse solvers recover full solution distributions rather than only one plausible reconstruction. It covers four physics-based inverse problems and uses reference posteriors generated with rejection sampling and Markov chain Monte Carlo, together with five metrics for pointwise error, uncertainty, distributional alignment, and frequency fidelity. The abstract reports gaps in distribution matching and sensitivity to neural-operator resolution robustness, guidance weights, and generation noise.

Analysis

The benchmark shifts evaluation from single-output plausibility toward posterior fidelity. That is relevant anywhere generative models are used for ill-posed scientific or engineering problems where calibrated uncertainty matters as much as mean accuracy.

Uncertainty/Doubt

  • This is an arXiv preprint; the benchmark construction, reference posterior quality, and reported solver comparisons were not independently reproduced here.
